Self Destruction

Dear Smokers,

I have tremendous animosity and strongly dislike the smell a cigarette gives off. Every time I walk pass a person smoking I take a deep breath and hold it until I am at least ten feet away from the scent. Smoking has no logical explanation and reason.

Keeping our environment clean and pollution free is important and crucial. You may not care or realize it but you are creating harmful air pollution that damages plants and the clean air around you. You, as a single person, may not do as much damage but millions of people who are always smoking adds up and can do a lot of harm to the environment.

You probably spend an average of $6,500 annually on packs of cigarettes. With $6,500 you can go on vacation twice a year, sign up at a gym membership for your whole family, or lease a 2015 Lexus RX 350 for a year. However you choose to spend that money you will still have some money left over.

Littering is the result of laziness and carelessness. When you finish your cigarette, you just throw it anywhere you please as if you own the world. I hate walking to my local grocery shop only to find tons of cigarette butts lying on the sidewalk, streets, and even on my front lawn. If you are going to smoke, throw it in an ashtray.

Smoking can cause many health risks and increase your chance of coronary heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer. The people around you inhale the harmful air you cause from your cigarette and secondhand smoke. These people take in the same harmful toxics as you. If you are still unconcerned about your heath, have the courtesy of others in mind and do not smoke near non-smokers.

Quitting the lousy habit all together, at once, may be very hard. You should start reducing your intake from cigarettes, to cigarette packs, and eventually stop all together. You will realize the benefits from quitting to smoke outweigh the benefits from continuing. I am telling you this because I care and hopefully you will heed my advice.

Respectfully,

Joseph A
